EPS Pension Calculator (EPFO, 2026 rules)

Estimate the monthly pension you will get from the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS), the pension part of your PF, now that the wage ceiling has gone up from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000.

The EPS pension formula

EPS pension = pensionable salary × pensionable service ÷ 70. Pensionable salary is the average of your basic pay plus DA over the last 60 months before you leave, capped at the wage ceiling. Pensionable service is the number of years you contributed to EPS. If your total service is 20 years or more, 2 bonus years are added when you take a full pension at 58.

The wage ceiling rose from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a month from 17 September 2026, so your employer now puts up to ₹2,083 a month into EPS instead of ₹1,250. This calculator values your service before that date at the old ₹15,000 ceiling and your service after it at ₹25,000, which is the cautious way to estimate.

Worked example

Anil’s average basic plus DA is ₹30,000. He has 10 years of service before 17 September 2026 and will work 10 more years after it. His total service is 20 years, so he gets 2 bonus years. His pension is (₹15,000 × 10 + ₹25,000 × 12) ÷ 70 = ₹4,50,000 ÷ 70 ≈ ₹6,429 a month from age 58. Under the old ₹15,000 ceiling for all 22 years, it would have been about ₹4,714.

If Anil starts his pension at 55 instead of 58, it is reduced by 4% a year for 3 years, to 88%, about ₹5,657 a month.

Rules worth knowing

  • You need at least 10 years of service for a monthly pension. With less, you can take a lump-sum withdrawal benefit when you leave.
  • Full pension starts at 58. Reduced pension can start from 50, at 4% less for each year early. Deferring up to 60 adds about 4% a year.
  • The minimum pension is ₹1,000 a month.
  • Service before 1 September 2014 can be valued at an even lower salary cap, and members who opted for higher pension on actual salary are calculated differently. Your EPFO pension statement is the final word.

Estimate only, for planning. EPFO calculates your actual pension from your service record.

Frequently asked questions

How is EPS pension calculated?

Monthly pension = pensionable salary × pensionable service ÷ 70. Pensionable salary is your average basic plus DA over the last 60 months, capped at the wage ceiling. If your total service is 20 years or more, 2 bonus years are added.

What is the maximum EPS pension after the ₹25,000 ceiling?

For service counted entirely at the ₹25,000 ceiling, 35 years of service plus 2 bonus years gives 25,000 × 37 ÷ 70, about ₹13,214 a month. Most people today will get less, because service before 17 September 2026 was counted at the old ₹15,000 ceiling.

How many years of service do I need for an EPS pension?

At least 10 years of eligible service. With less than 10 years you cannot get a monthly pension, but you can withdraw a lump sum (withdrawal benefit) when you leave.

Can I take EPS pension before 58?

Yes, reduced pension can start from age 50. The pension is cut by 4% for each year before 58, so starting at 55 gives 88% of the full amount.

Is there a minimum EPS pension?

Yes. EPFO pays a minimum pension of ₹1,000 a month to eligible members.

Does the new ceiling apply to my past service?

Not automatically. This calculator values service before 17 September 2026 at the old ₹15,000 ceiling and later service at ₹25,000. Service before September 2014 may be valued differently again, so treat the result as an estimate and check your EPFO pension statement.
