Why play maths games?

Arithmetic is a motor skill as much as an intellectual one. The difference between someone who finds mental maths easy and someone who does not is rarely raw ability — it is whether the basic facts have become automatic. Short, frequent practice does that, and games make short and frequent far more likely than worksheets do.

The games here are grouped three ways so you can find the right one quickly: by what they train, by who they suit, and by the maths they cover. Every game states plainly what it does and does not do — the memory games in particular come with an honest note about what brain training has and has not been shown to achieve.
