How it works

German employees pay roughly half of each social insurance contribution (the employer pays the other half): pension insurance 9.3%, health insurance ~8.75% (including the average additional contribution), unemployment insurance 1.3%, and long-term care insurance 1.8% (2.4% if childless and 23+). Pension and unemployment insurance are capped at a €101,400 annual ceiling; health and care insurance at €69,750.

Illustrative estimate only, using simplified/rounded 2026 German tax figures — not tax advice. The income tax figure uses a smoothed approximation of the official §32a EStG progressive formula, not the exact quadratic zone formula. Always confirm with the Finanzamt or a Steuerberater.
